Obituary

Susan "Suzy Cee" (Sue) Chunn, 73, of Apache Junction, Arizona, passed away on December 11, 2025.

Sue was born on March 10, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan, to Donald and Rosemary Hammerle. She graduated from Denby High School in Detroit in 1970 and later attended Macomb Community College, where she studied accountancy. Suzy spent a majority of her career working for the airlines and retired from American Airlines as a Crew Compensation Analyst.

Suzy was the proud mother of three children from her first marriage. In 1985, she married Sam Chunn, and together they shared 40 wonderful years filled with love, music, laughter, and adventure.

In 1988, Suzy and Sam moved their family to Arizona—a decision that perfectly suited her love for sunshine and warmth. She left Michigan winters behind and embraced the desert sun. Suzy also adored the beach, with favorite destinations including Hawaii, the white sands of Florida's Gulf Coast, and Ocean Beach, California. However, any beach was perfect as long as there was sun, sand, and shells to search for.

Suzy will be remembered for her sassy spirit, warm heart, and love for her family and friends. She found great joy in spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed every moment with them. Animals, especially dogs, held a special place in her heart, and she often volunteered her time with a local dog rescue. Another huge part of Suzy's life was listening to Sam play music.  She loved making friends at the venues where he performed, and creating memories together through their many adventures.

Suzy is survived by her loving husband, Sam Chunn; her daughters, Jill (Dan) Meinhard, whom she was reunited with later in life, Michelle (Jeff) Sobkoviak, and Kelley Huey; and her son, Brian Honoway. She is also survived by her siblings, Cheryl (Chris) Marecki, Joe (Fran) Hammerle, and Paul (Laura) Hammerle; and her seven grandchildren, Justin and Patrick Huey, Brooke and Tanner Sobkoviak, Jordan White, and Joe and Autumn Meinhard.

Through her marriage to Sam, she also gained four stepchildren, Patrick (Christy), Jason (Tiffany), Jeramy, and Scott and eleven step-grandchildren.

Suzy was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Rosemary Hammerle; her oldest brother and his wife, Tom and Theresa Hammerle; and grandson, Devon White.

You may pay your respects to the family from 2:00–3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Superstition Cremation and Funeral Services in Apache Junction, Arizona. A celebration of life will follow from 4:00–8:00 p.m. at VFW Post 7968, also in Apache Junction.
